This section gives a brief overview of the chiropractic register. It also gives prospective applicants for registration the information they need to apply.
The primary purpose of the General Chiropractic Council is to protect chiropractic patients and the public by registering chiropractors and setting standards.
One of the ways we do this is by holding a register of chiropractors. This means that before someone calls themselves a chiropractor, they must gain registration with us. It is illegal to practice as a chiropractor in the UK if you are not registered with us.
Registration involves a thorough application process and we check all documentation provided as part of that process. Where the applicant meets all of our requirements the Registrar will grant registration. If the applicant does not meet our requirements, the Registrar has the power to refuse registration.
The register of chiropractors is publicly available to search on the homepage. This is updated in real-time so is the most up to date version.
In line with our statutory obligations we also produce a published register, which provides a snap-shot of the register, every January. The latest published register can be found here.
We publish a monthly registration movement report summarising the numbers of movements on and off the register.
Every year we also publish a report with statistics on the register as a whole, including information on the make-up of our registrants and an analysis against previous years.
