Organisation

The General Chiropractic Council consists of a Council, a number of committees and a small team of staff led by Nick Jones, Chief Executive and Registrar.

The Council is responsible for ensuring that the General Chiropractic Council fulfils its statutory objectives. It sets the strategic direction for the organisation and oversees the implementation of that strategy.

A number of committees implement the policies of the Council and exercise delegated authority for some statutory and regulatory roles.

Complaints about unacceptable professional conduct, professional incompetence, a chiropractor with a conviction or impaired fitness to practise are decided by statutory committees. Statutory committees are operationally separate from the Council in order to ensure their decision-making is independent.

Governance

Our Governance Handbook includes further information about how we are structured and managed and also includes the Council Code of Conduct. These are the standards that Council and committee (statutory and non-statutory) members must adhere to when carrying out their roles. The Governance Handbook also applies to partners working with the Council, for example, legal and medical assessors that are appointed to assist some committees.

Professional Standards Authority

In line with other health professional regulators in the UK, we are overseen by the Professional Standards Authority.
