The General Chiropractic Council (GCC) has launched its new five-year Strategy 2026–2030, setting out a clear vision and direction for the regulation of the chiropractic profession.

The Strategy, approved by Council in October 2025 following a public consultation, is built around three strategic aims:

  • Upholding professional standards throughout the education and career of every chiropractor
  • Delivering our core regulatory and registration activities to a high standard
  • Collaborating to shape the profession’s future

The Strategy also sets out how the GCC will strengthen its organisational effectiveness, focusing on sustainability, people, digital infrastructure and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. A central part of the Strategy is the updated Code of Professional Practice, which will come into effect in January 2026. The Code defines updated standards for modern chiropractic practice and is the foundation for the Strategy’s first aim: upholding professional standards throughout the career of every chiropractor.

Feedback from registrants, patients, professional associations and other stakeholders during the consultation period played a vital role in shaping the final document.

Jonathan McShane, Chair of the GCC, said:

"The 2026–2030 Strategy is both ambitious and forward-looking. It builds on the progress we have already made, while setting a vision for how the GCC will respond to the challenges and opportunities of the future. We are entering a new chapter where collaboration, innovation and inclusivity will be central to our work. Our aim is to safeguard the public while supporting a profession that continues to mature and demonstrate its value within the wider health and care system. I want to thank everyone who contributed their views during the consultation process. Your perspectives have been essential in shaping a Strategy that will guide us with confidence into the next five years."

Nick Jones, Chief Executive and Registrar of the GCC, said:

"This Strategy represents a pivotal moment for the GCC and the profession we regulate. It reflects the insights of patients, registrants and stakeholders, and sets out a clear direction for the next five years. Our commitment is to be an agile, modern regulator that not only upholds high professional standards, but also works alongside others to build trust, openness and inclusivity in chiropractic care. We know the profession is evolving, and this Strategy is designed to help ensure patients can continue to access safe and effective care, that chiropractors are supported throughout their careers and that regulation actively supports the development of the profession for the future."

The 2026–2030 Strategy will guide the GCC’s work from January 2026 through to 2030. The full document is available here.
