We strongly recommend not booking any patients until you have received confirmation from us that your name has been transferred to practising registration.

Please note:

If you have been annotated on the register as non-practising for more than two years, you are expected to complete the Return to Practice in the UK programme before applying for a transfer to practising registration.

If you are applying for the following year, please ensure you leave enough time to complete the programme before the start of the registration year.

What must I do to transfer to a practising chiropractor?

If you are transferring as part of the retention process you should complete the retention application online as normal and select the full (practising) fee. Please only submit typed applications and self-assessment forms. Handwritten forms will be rejected. Please note we are unable to accept documents saved as Apple pages documents (.pages).

If you are a non-practising chiropractor and wish to apply for transfer to practising registration please email the GCC with the below information:

  • evidence of your professional indemnity insurance for practising in the UK.  Please be aware that you will not be registered as practising until your indemnity start date.

  • a copy of your passport as evidence of your identity, which must be certified by someone of professional standing and state 'I confirm this to be a true and accurate copy of the original passport as seen by me'.

  • Pay the transfer fee.

You may also be asked to provide additional information if your situation has changed during the time you have not been registered. For example, if you have received a criminal conviction or caution, experienced any health issues or changed your name.

Fees

Your fees help fund the important work of the GCC to maintain high standards across the chiropractic profession in the UK and ensure the safety of patients receiving chiropractic treatment.

The GCC is financially independent of the government, which means that we do not receive funding. We see our independence as an important part of maintaining standards of the chiropractic profession.

Registrants who wish to transfer from non-practising to practising status should note the following fee arrangements:

  • Between 1 January and 9 November: The registrant is required to pay £700 to cover the remainder of the current year. You will then also be invited to complete your Retention (mid-October), which includes paying the practising fee of £800 for the next calendar year.

  • Between 10 November and 31 December: The registrant is required to pay the full practising fee (£800) for the following year. In these cases, the change to practising status takes effect from the date of transfer and remains valid until 31 December of the following year (for example, a transfer made on 10 November 2025 would be valid until 31 December 2026).

How to pay your transfer fee

Please note that all fees must be paid before a transfer to practising status can be approved. When submitting your transfer application and supporting documents by email, you may request a card payment link to pay the transfer fee securely online.

There are other ways to pay which can be found on the fees page.
