With six months remaining before the 2021/2022 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) deadline (31 August 2022), we remind registrants of the requirement to include self-reflection on their communication skills as part of this year’s CPD submission.

Registrants will be required to outline how their communication skills enable them to provide a safe and effective service for their patients, and how they have addressed, and/or plan to address, any areas identified for improvement. This CPD development reflects the approach undertaken previously on first aid readiness.

For information and guidance on CPD, visit the GCC CPD pages.

New Registrants

For new registrants, there is an additional requirement. It’s tough starting in clinical practice and our expectations are intended to be supportive. We want new registrants to include specific activities in their CPD submission. This is to provide assurance that new registrants starting in the profession meet essential elements of good clinical governance, in providing high standards of care and safeguarding patients.

During their first years as a UK chiropractic registrant, the GCC expects registrants to reflect on their skills, experiences and understanding on key areas, and to consider and address aspects that may need strengthening; reporting this activity in their annual CPD return.

Those areas are:

  • Standards-based care (including evidence-based practice)
  • Clinical audit
  • Safety incident reporting and learning
  • Patient recorded outcomes/patient satisfaction measures
  • Reflective practice

Additional guidance and information for new registrants can be found on the GCC CPD section of its website.
