Penny Bance and Daniel Moore from the GCC presenting their Keynote at the World Federation of Chiropractic's Education Conference. The GCC recently attended the World Federation of Chiropractic’s 12th Global Education Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Penny Bance (Director of Development) and Daniel Moore (Education Committee) had been invited to present research conducted by the GCC, and provide the final Keynote address of the conference, focused on the development of contemporary Education Standards that meet the needs of a constantly evolving healthcare sector.

Attending international education conferences within the chiropractic profession offers significant value, not only for the GCC, but for the wider professional impact it cultivates. For the GCC, fostering international connections very much supports our understanding of enhancing chiropractic education, and advancing the profession globally.

Firstly, international conferences provide unparalleled opportunities to network with professionals from diverse backgrounds and educational systems. Through engaging in dialogue with educators, researchers, and practitioners worldwide, participants can exchange ideas, methodologies, and insights that lead to innovation and collaboration. During this trip, meetings with other regulators supported our understanding of international trends in regulation and accreditation, ensuring the GCC is up to date and can better advocate for policies and standards that support both public protection and the professional growth of chiropractors.  These connections offer a platform to discuss global trends and challenges, creating a more resilient and adaptable profession.

In addition to networking, these conferences often highlight emerging research and technological advances that can shape the future of chiropractic education and practice. This conference was focused entirely on digital health technology, an important and rapidly emerging sector.  Exposure to cutting-edge studies, as well as innovative teaching tools, enables the GCC and other educators to adopt best practices that align with the latest developments in healthcare. This forward-thinking approach ultimately benefits chiropractic students, who then gain an education that is current, relevant, and globally informed. Ultimately, these advancements prepare future chiropractors to provide high-quality care that meets evolving patient needs and expectations.

By connecting with educators and researchers across borders, the GCC can contribute to discussions that have a national and global perspective, sharing findings that enhance patient care, curriculum development, and professional standards worldwide. During this conference Daniel Moore presented research the GCC undertook to present the process leading to the new 2023 Education Standards.  A well received example of sharing good practice.  This collaborative spirit also builds a sense of unity within the chiropractic community, reinforcing shared goals and standards that elevate the profession collectively.

Moreover, attending these conferences underscores the importance of cultural competence in chiropractic education. Chiropractors increasingly serve diverse patient populations, cultural competence becomes a vital skill. Positively engaging internationally allows the GCC, educators and professionals, to gain insights into culturally responsive teaching practices, which then feed into the contexts in which we work. This commitment to inclusivity ultimately enhances education and the quality of care provided by chiropractors, benefiting society at large.

Finally, active participation in international education conferences bolsters the reputation of the GCC and UK chiropractic education on the world stage. By contributing to these global discussions, the GCC demonstrates leadership and commitment to the continual advancement of chiropractic education. This visibility not only strengthens the GCC’s standing but also fosters confidence in UK-trained chiropractors as professionals who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet global standards. The Keynote address delivered by Penny and Daniel was very well received and strongly encouraged attendees to remain open to innovations and changes as they occur, and collaborate meaningfully with all stakeholders when curating policy or standards, ensuring the patient voice is included and shines brightly through any consultation.

In conclusion, engaging in international education conferences is invaluable for the GCC and the chiropractic profession. It enables knowledge exchange, fosters research collaboration, aligns standards, promotes cultural competence, and enhances the GCC’s global standing. Through these efforts, the GCC ensures that chiropractic education in the UK remains progressive, relevant, and of high quality, ultimately benefiting students, practitioners, and patients alike.
