Our Approach

We understand that pursuing a concern about a chiropractor can be stressful. If you are asked to be involved in an investigation, you can expect to be treated with dignity and respect. We will let you know who is looking after your case and keep you updated throughout the investigation. If you think you need some additional dedicated support we can arrange this for you at any stage of the process.

You can ask your GCC point of contact to refer you, and the support service will get in touch directly. Alternatively, you can contact them yourself:

Phone: 0300 303 5394 (calls charged at local rates)
Email: RegulatorSupportService@victimsupport.org.uk

After reviewing your concern, the independent Investigating Committee may decide that your concern needs to be considered further at a formal hearing. If this happens, we will contact you to let you know.

What to expect at a formal hearing

A hearing is a formal meeting held by either the Professional Conduct Committee or Health Committee.

The Committee is made up of a chair, a chiropractor and a ‘lay’ member. Their role is to hear evidence about what happened and decide what action to take. Often an independent lawyer will also sit with the Committee to provide legal advice.

In addition to the Committee members, the hearing will also be attended by the GCC’s legal representative and by a legal representative for the chiropractor. The chiropractor is entitled to representation and will sometimes represent themselves.

You may be asked to give evidence during a hearing. If called, you will be asked to explain what you have said happened as outlined in your witness statement and to answer questions about it. It is likely that you will be asked questions by both legal representatives.

The Chair of the Committee will make sure that you are not put under any unnecessary pressure. The Chair and the General Chiropractic Council’s lawyer will make sure that you are treated fairly and with respect during the hearing.
