New GCC Chair Jonathan McShane reflects on his first month in the role.

Earlier this year I was honoured to be confirmed as the new Chair of the General Chiropractic Council. This concluded an intensive recruitment process which began in September last year.
Whilst I have a background in health, I am new to professional regulation and to the chiropractic profession. So since the public announcement of my appointment, I have been busy meeting the GCC team, fellow council members and key stakeholders across the profession.People have been incredibly generous with their time, sharing their experience and their perspectives on the challenges facing the profession. What is already obvious to me is that the council, committees and staff of the GCC share my belief in the critical role that regulation can play in keeping patients safe and driving improvements in care.
Having met my new colleagues, I am scheduled to meet with representatives of the professional bodies and the Royal College, as well as my peers at other health regulators throughout February and March. I also want to get out to meet as many of our education providers as I can over the coming months.
The next few months will be a steep learning curve for me but I am coming to this role with open ears and an open mind, and I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming weeks and months.
