We welcome applications from higher education providers seeking approval to deliver new chiropractic programmes.

In 2023 we introduced new Education Standards to ensure chiropractic graduates are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to appraise and treat patients independently and safely. In recent years, we have approved several new chiropractic degree programmes, helping to widen access to chiropractic education.

Earlier in 2026, the Scotland College of Chiropractic (SCC) submitted a new application for its programme. An independent Education Visitor Panel reviewed the programme submission, undertook an approval visit to the SCC campus and provided its findings to the GCC Education Committee. The panel comprised two registrant chiropractors and two lay members with significant expertise and experience in higher education.

Here is an update on the status of the SCC’s submission:

  • April 2026: the programme submission was reviewed by the Education Visitor panel and its findings were considered by the Education Committee. The Committee concluded that the SCC had provided sufficient evidence to indicate that the programme had the potential to meet all of the Education Standards and agreed that the application should proceed to an approval visit.

  • 8- 9 June 2026: the Education Visitor panel, supported by the GCC's Education & Standards Officer and Director of Development, conducted a two-day approval visit to the SCC. During the visit, the panel met with a wide range of representatives and stakeholders. In total, ten meetings were held with students, teaching staff, managers, patients and placement providers to assess the programme against the Education Standards.

  • 8 July 2026: the GCC Education Committee considered the Education Visitor panel’s approval report at its meeting.

  • 30 September 2026: Council will consider the SCC’s application and recommendation from the Education Committee.

Should Council decide to approve the SCC’s programme, the decision will be subject to further consideration by the Privy Council.

Further updates will be provided following Council’s decision in September.
