The statement, developed through the education inter-regulatory group (IRG), sets out a shared position on how AI should be considered within approved health and care programmes. It recognises that AI is increasingly being used by learners and can enhance education when applied appropriately. At the same time, it highlights the importance of managing associated risks, including overreliance on technology, biased or misleading outputs, and potential impacts on patient safety.
The joint statement outlines a series of guiding principles for education providers, focusing on:
-
Preparation for practice, equipping learners with the skills to use AI safely, explain its use clearly to patients or service users, and adapt to emerging technologies throughout their careers.
The statement is intended to complement existing sector guidance and provide clarity on regulatory expectations. It also aims to support providers delivering programmes approved by more than one regulator by reducing unnecessary duplication or inconsistent regulatory approaches.
Penny Bance, Director of Development at the General Chiropractic Council, said:
“We are pleased to issue this joint statement alongside fellow health and care regulators following extensive collaboration through the education inter-regulatory group. As the use of AI continues to evolve within education, it is important that regulators provide a clear and consistent position for the sector.
At the General Chiropractic Council, our focus remains firmly on maintaining high professional standards and protecting patients. We recognise that AI can support learning and innovation, but it must be integrated responsibly, transparently and without compromising academic integrity or clinical competence.
By setting out a shared approach, we aim to give education providers reassurance and clarity, particularly those delivering programmes approved by more than one regulator, while continuing to support thoughtful and proportionate innovation within chiropractic education.”
