Saturday 31 August was the last date for registrants to complete and submit their Continuing Professional Development record (CPD) for the 2023-2024 round.

As at Monday 2 September, 71% of all eligible registrants had completed their CPD submission. We recognise this as both an individual achievement for each chiropractor, and a collective acknowledgment of the importance of lifelong learning and development by the chiropractic profession.

However, we are aware that the portal suffered some "downtime" over the weekend, which may have impacted your ability to complete your submission.

In response to these difficulties, Nick Jones (the registrar) has agreed that any CPD submissions made before 12 noon on Friday 6 September will be accepted and recorded as if they were completed by the deadline.

We are writing to those affected with more details.

What happened?

Each year the GCC plans for a surge in last minute CPD submissions - with an estimated 1700 users submitting their records on the Friday or Saturday this year.

Early last week we were informed of a routine update to the portal software planned for Friday evening. These updates are not usually expected to cause downtime, or impact the functioning of the portal, so we did not consider it to be a concern. Unfortunately, our logs show that there was a short period of time when the portal was unavailable, and the update also caused some further unexpected issues for some users with CPD submission – specifically impacting the time it takes to submit the EDI reflection page.

We have been assured by our supplier that the issues have now been resolved – although there continues to be a high level of traffic on the portal which means details (especially the EDI reflections) can still be slow to submit. We advise registrants to have a copy of the text in a separate document, and “copy and paste” it into the form to prevent the page from timing out.

Apology

We would like to apologise to anyone who was impacted by the downtime over the weekend - we are sorry for the frustration and concern this will have caused you. We hope that the "grace period" until noon on Friday 6 September will accommodate those who experienced issues over the weekend without being unfair to those who had completed early.

We will also be considering what lessons can be learned for how we manage the CPD recording process in future years.
