Guidance and Toolkits

The GCC offers resources to help registrants plan purposeful CPD, record meaningful reflection and demonstrate continuing competence. Toolkits provide guidance on identifying learning needs, evaluating the impact of CPD, engaging with peers and integrating reflection into daily practice. These materials support chiropractors in maintaining high standards, developing professionally, and ensuring their knowledge and skills remain current and Code-compliant.

Reflective practice is about reflecting on one’s actions in order to engage in a process of continuous learning.

The Code of Professional Practice sets out the professional duty to engage in reflection by seeking feedback and analysing their practice to support continuous improvement; and to maintain competence through regular and relevant learning and professional development activities. Reflection, evaluation and planning of professional development activities are requirements of the statutory continuing professional development (CPD) rules and are essential elements of the GCC’s CPD programme.

This toolkit provides registrants with practical suggestions to help chiropractors take a structured and habitually reflective approach in relation to all learning, including the reflection-in-action that can take place during clinical practice.

Demonstrating the highest levels of competency as a healthcare professional is critical to achieving the trust and confidence of patients. For chiropractors, competency means showing the appropriate knowledge and skills to treat patients safely and effectively.

Chiropractic practice is a lifelong journey that demands continuous growth and the upkeep of skills and knowledge to remain current with advancements in the profession. Chiropractors are required to work within their own individual scope of practice. They are expected to regularly monitor the need to adapt and update their practice, taking responsibility for remaining up to date, and for further developing and improving their professional performance.

This toolkit provides registrants with practical suggestions to help chiropractors fully participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and approach the task of keeping up to date with the latest thinking, treatment methods and evidence relating to professional practice.

Leadership is a quality that every chiropractor can demonstrate, regardless of role, setting or career stage. It is not limited to managing or supervising others but is reflected in the way you act every day, through your professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to patient safety. Effective leadership means working well with colleagues and other health professionals, setting a positive example, fostering a culture of respect and openness and addressing poor behaviour where it arises.

This toolkit provides registrants with practical suggestions to understand leadership and help to create safe, supportive workplaces where patients receive the best possible care and colleagues feel valued and encouraged.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

All GCC registered chiropractors (whether practising or non-practising) must keep up to date with the latest developments within the profession, including those relating to legislation as well as chiropractic technique. This helps to ensure that all registrants are practising in both their patients and their own best interests. Its CPD programme is the GCC’s way of ensuring that all chiropractors are continually broadening and deepening their knowledge, as required by the annual CPD requirements specified within its legislation
